You should run 2 miles every other day. And on the off days do cardio.

3 miles per day should be plenty, but make sure to mix up your routine. jog then walk then run full out. varriety is the spice of life. if you keep doing the something everyday nothing will change.

It's all based on how you feel during the run and how you feel the next day. Too much pain during the run is from going too fast. Too much pain the next day is from going to far. You want to be "uncomfortable" during the run and the next morning. Set your pace and distance accordingly. Your on the right track with diet and exercise though. Good for you.

By "uncomfortable" i mean not in pain, but not just feeling fine either. Push yourself. In order to get n better shape you need to do a little bit more than your body can. Eventually your body will adjust to fit the new lifestyle. That's when you'll push a little harder. Eventually you'll be doing marathons with sixpack abs.

Miles dont matter. If you are trying to lose weight, run for time. Run at a pace that will raise your heart rate and keep it there for between 30 and 40 minutes. This is where you will burn calories and help raise your metabolism and endurance levels.

Then figure out how many miles you are running after that time frame. You will see those miles increase as your endurance levels and pace increase.

Running is VERY bad on the joints & when you're much older, you'll pay the price. Walking briskly can achieve the same results you desire without joint damage.

the object is to burn more calories than you take in so to answer the question we would have to know your calorie intake

below is a link for a calorie calculator. you put in your weight and how many minutes you plan to exercise and it will tell you how many calories you will burn doing a lot of diffrent activites.

like if you put in your weight and 30 minutes it will show you how many calories you will burn running, walking swimming and so on for those 30 minutes

swimming is a good calorie burner to get more out of less effort becuase your body needs to burn calories just to keep your tempature up from the diffrence of the water temp. so you get additional calories burned without having to actually put movement to burn them. it is also better on your joints.

the second link you can put in the amount of weight you want to lose and your current weight then you slide the calorie deficit meter over and it will show you what your deficit needs to be per day to lose the weight in a set time frame.

so between the 2 links if you figure out how many calories you are taking in and how many you are burning you can figure out how to adjust your exercise routine and calorie intake to lose a set of weight amount in a set amount of time
